Investigators received a tip on Dec. 18 last year that again placed Allen in the Houston area. The information was limited, but investigators were able to conduct surveillance in the area mentioned.
Police received additional information from the tipster on Jan. 6.
The tip led police to an apartment complex in north Harris County. Neighbors of Allen told investigators that he had been transported to a local hospital. He was then transferred to another hospital in critical condition, where he was admitted Dec. 31 after allegedly overdosing on PCP and methamphetamine, officials said.
"Allen was admitted to the hospital under an alias name," according to the sheriff’s office. "However, investigators were able to verify his identity through fingerprints."
