Saks Global Unmoved on Downtown Dallas Neiman Marcus Store Closure

Saks Global has reiterated its intention to close the downtown Dallas Neiman Marcus store, despite local efforts to save the site. The company has pushed back against the Dallas Consortium, a group of local city and business leaders, which has called for a meeting to discuss the store’s future.

"Our decision to close the Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas store is final and we are moving forward as such," Saks Global said in a statement. "The situation is far more complicated than what the public is being led to believe."

The Dallas Consortium, which includes local business leaders and city officials, has been working to save the store and has secured a deed for the property of Slaughter Partners, a landlord that had held some of the ground underneath the store.

"We have made several attempts to be connected directly to the city manager, as an official representative of the City of Dallas, and we were denied," Saks Global said. "While we had been willing to hear the Consortium’s perspective, a meeting was not confirmed."

However, the city manager, Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, has announced that she has received the deed to the disputed property and is willing to meet with Saks Global to discuss the store’s future.

"I, as city manager, received the deed to the parcel of property that was previously an issue for them," Tolbert said. "We hope that Saks will live up to their word to come and meet with the consortium in person. Otherwise, I am personally happy to lead a delegation to New York City for a productive meeting."

Background

The downtown Dallas Neiman Marcus store has been a staple in the city’s retail scene for decades, but in recent years, the company has been struggling to compete with online retailers and other brick-and-mortar stores.
