Examples include deli meats, sausages, hot dogs, bacon, corned beef, ham, pepperoni and beef jerky.<\/p>\n<p>The World Health Organization\u2019s International Agency for Research on Cancer classified processed meat as \u201ccarcinogenic to humans\u201d in 2015 because of \u201csufficient evidence from epidemiological studies that eating processed meat causes colorectal cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas reports that heme, nitrates and nitrites in processed meats can damage cells lining the bowel, increasing cancer risk.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, cooking processed meats at high temperatures can produce heterocyclic amines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, chemicals that have been shown to cause cancer in animals.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Drink Alcohol<\/h2>\n<p>Alcohol has been found to raise the risk of at least seven types of cancer, including breast, bowel, liver and throat cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI omit all alcohol from my life,\u201d Andrews shared. \u201cI\u2019m sure you\u2019ve \u2026 seen it, probably even in passing today, that alcohol is fun, it gets you through the day \u2014 mommy wine culture, de-stress, all those things. Nope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alcohol consumption raises the risk of at least seven types of cancer, including breast, bowel, liver and throat cancer, US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said Friday as he called on Congress to require warning labels about the link.<\/p>\n<p>Murthy said 16.4% of breast cancer cases can be attributed to drinking.<\/p>\n<p>Alcohol can increase levels of estrogen and other hormones tied to breast cancer. And when booze is metabolized in the body, it produces a chemical that can damage DNA and potentially lead to tumors.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Load Up on Supplements<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cDo not seek out supplements to reduce cancer risk, because, in fact, high doses of supplements can increase cancer risk,\u201d Andrews said.<\/p>\n<p>For example, very large doses of beta-carotene supplements have been linked to a higher risk of lung cancer in smokers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not take any supplements unless my doctor recommends it,\u201d Andrews declared. \u201cI get all my nutrients from food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By avoiding these three activities, individuals can significantly reduce their risk of developing cancer.
