New York City hospitals have once again earned top spots in national health care rankings, with NYU Langone Health earning No. 1 recognition as a \u201ccomprehensive academic medical center\u201d for the fourth year in a row.

\nVizient, a health care improvement company, announced its rankings in several categories this week.<\/p>\n
Langone\u2019s Brooklyn and Long Island hospitals earned specific accolades, as did Northwell Health, Hackensack University Medical Center and several hospitals within the NewYork-Presbyterian system including Weill Cornell Medical Center. This is the fourth year in a row that NYU Langone\u2019s Manhattan inpatient locations took the top spot on the list of comprehensive academic medical centers. The Long Island and Brooklyn hospitals were in the top 10 for the large specialized complex medical center category.<\/p>\n

This year marks the 20th year of the Quality and Accountability Study, which draws on data from Vizient, the CDC and a national survey capturing patients\u2019 perspectives on hospital care. Hospitals vying for the Bernard A. Birnbaum Quality Leadership Award were ranked on key metrics including safety, mortality, efficiency and patient centeredness.<\/p>\n
NewYork-Presbyterian made a strong showing, with its Brooklyn Methodist and Queens hospitals both earning top spots in the large, specialized complex care category. NYU Langone Hospital\u2013Long Island also ranked highly, clinching third place in the same cohort. Meanwhile, when it comes to caring for the city\u2019s smallest patients, Hackensack University Medical Center ranked third among the nation\u2019s best pediatric hospitals. Mount Sinai Hospital, New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell, NYU Langone Hospitals and Hackensack University Medical Center at Hackensack Meridian Health in Hackensack, NJ, all made the list for their\u00a0\u201cBest Hospitals\u201d rankings\u00a0in July. They also tied for first place for best regional hospitals in the NYC metro area.<\/p>\n NYU Langone Health had more No. 1-ranked specialties than any US medical center: neurology and neurosurgery (for the fourth consecutive year); cardiology, heart and vascular surgery; pulmonology and lung surgery; and geriatric care.
