The New Italian American Museum<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Legacy of Tradition and Contributions<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 1999, Dr. Joseph V. Scelsa felt the need to create a dedicated space to showcase the history of Italian Americans. After a successful temporary exhibit at the New-York Historical Society, Scelsa opened the Italian American Museum in 2008 at the former Banca Stabile building in Little Italy.<\/p>\n

Fast forward to 2018, construction began on a new, six-story building at 155 Mulberry Street, marking the dawn of a new era for the Italian American Museum. The new building is now home to various exhibits, including:<\/p>\n

    To mark the occasion, the museum hosted an opening event on October 1, attended by representatives Jerry Nadler and Kathy Hochul, who secured $1 million in state funding in 2022. Fabrizio Di Michele, Consul General of Italy in New York, also attended, recognizing the museum’s importance in celebrating the Italian American community’s rich cultural heritage and significant contributions.<\/p>\n
