TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) \u2014 Monday was the first day of a joint operation by public agencies in Troy to help improve the city\u2019s quality of life. The program is called Operation Refresh, it aims to beautify Troy’s streets.

\nFrom the washers, to the sweepers, crews were at work on Monday. \u201cStreet by street, alley by alley, just cleaning up debris yard materials\u201d said Joe Martin, Troy’s DPW Street Supervisor.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe literally scraped from curb to curb in the past. Alleyways weren’t hit, we hit alleyways also. Our sweeper comes through, three times. We’re picking up the garbage" said Mayor Carmella Mantello.
\nThis is a joint operation by Troy\u2019s Quality of Life Action Force, comprising multiple agencies like the Community Police, Fire Department and Codes Department.<\/p>\n

This all hands on deck effort is more than just removing the ring around the collar \u2014 city that is, Mayor Mantello says it\u2019s part of a bigger picture: improving Troy\u2019s quality of life.
\n\u201cIf you have a block where you’re seeing garbage, you’re seeing illegal dumping, you can’t even get down the alleyway, and that’s what was happening prior. Now, people are taking pride in their neighborhood, they’re starting to see something say something\u201d said Mantello.<\/p>\n

Resident Cooperation<\/h3>\n

The city wants residents to move their cars and posted signs on streets where parking would be temporarily restricted on certain days for cleaning. According to Troy is also\u00a0offering free bulk trash drop offs\u00a0at the Alamo on Friday, April 11th,\u00a0and Saturday May 3rd\u00a0from 9:00am \u2013 1:00pm.
