A man was taken into custody following the violent stabbing of a woman in SoHo on April 7, 2025.

\nA woman is in critical condition Monday afternoon after a deranged man stabbed her in the neck on a SoHo street with a piece of glass, police reported.<\/p>\n
The suspected attacker was apprehended moments after the assault, which occurred near the corner of Wooster and Broome Streets at about 3:04 p.m. on April 7. The attack occurred within the confines of the 1st Precinct.
\nPolice said the incident unfolded with an assault on another woman minutes earlier. According to NYPD Assistant Chief James McCarthy, a 29-year-old woman was walking eastbound on Broome Street toward Wooster when the man came up behind her and whacked her over the back with a bottle.
\nThe victim fled uninjured, but the attacker was not done there. He grabbed a shard of the smashed glass and hunted for a second victim.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe encountered another female, 25 years old, where unfortunately, as he was walking by her, in an unprovoked attack, he slashed her in the neck with a broken bottle, causing a serious injury,\u201d McCarthy said. \u201cThe woman was removed to Bellevue Hospital, where she is now undergoing surgery.\u201d A security guard at the scene, who asked not to be identified, ran to the woman\u2019s aid after hearing her scream. Meanwhile, amNewYork came on the scene in time to catch a glimpse of the male suspect being taken into custody at the scene.
\nOne eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said he saw the attacker use the shard of glass from the broken bottle to stab her in the neck.

\n\u201cShe did not look good. She was bleeding from the neck and was pale as she was put in the ambulance,\u201d the eyewitness said.<\/p>\nResponse to the Attack<\/h2>\n
\n\u201cAll I heard was her screaming,\u201d said the security guard, who then got to work with other New Yorkers helping the bleeding woman before police and EMS arrived.
\n\u201cI\u2019m trained for retail theft, but personally, I\u2019m trained for other stuff,\u201d the guard said. \u201cSo it\u2019s just it could be anybody, daughter, sister. I\u2019m here to help anybody. It makes no difference who you are.\u201d<\/p>\nArrest and Investigation<\/h2>\n

\nThe NYPD has sealed off the entire block as detectives investigate the incident.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re praying that she comes out of surgery and that she is going to make a recovery,\u201d McCarthy added.
