City Limits’ Fall 2024 Youth Reporting Interns
Meet the Students
This fall, more than two dozen high school students from across New York City are participating in CLARIFY (City Limits Accountability Reporting Initiative for Youth), a paid training program for young journalists. The students are learning the ins and outs of investigative journalism as they report on issues affecting their communities.
Student Profiles
Aliyat Aromire
Aliyat is a 17-year-old senior at South Bronx Community Charter High School. She hopes to use her experience in this journalism internship to improve her creative writing.
Zainab Azam
Zainab is a 17-year-old senior at Edward R. Murrow High School. She is passionate about criminal justice and wants to go into law, following in her grandfather’s footsteps. She also enjoys art and media, writing poems and short stories for her school’s magnet program.
Roberto Bailey
Roberto is a 16-year-old junior at Hunter College High School. He is passionate about journalism and hopes to learn more about how to use reporting to drive meaningful change and highlight the issues he cares about.
Christian Chand
Christian is a 17-year-old senior at Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical High School. He is a fan of the arts and is involved in his school’s journalism team, input committee, and science honor society.
Kenneth
Kenneth is a senior at Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School. He is an EMT student and is developing skills to assist others in emergency situations. He aspires to become a pilot in the near future.
Brianna Cruz
Brianna is a 16-year-old junior at Park East High School. She is passionate about speaking up for her community and representing underrepresented people through journalism. She wants to study law to make the world a better place and address issues in the criminal justice system.
Habibatou Diallo
Habibatou is a 16-year-old senior at Bronx Prep High School. She is interested in learning more about her community and bringing awareness to current events taking place worldwide that others may not know about.
Yayatejan Dieng
Yayatejan is a 16-year-old high school senior from New York City who dreams of attending NYU and earning a Ph.D. in physics, inspired by his father, who holds a Ph.D. in physics. He is passionate about exploring diverse career paths, including applied mathematics, international law, and journalism.
Anne
Anne is a 17-year-old senior at Bronx Preparatory Charter School. She is the founder of the GirlUp chapter in her high school and is passionate about advocating for women’s health and gender equity in the Bronx.
Daniela Flores Martinez
Daniela is a high school senior from the Bronx who is passionate about navigating the inner workings of investigative journalism and writing compelling articles. She wants to study political science and law in the future.
Lydinia Grandoit
Lydinia is a junior at the High School of Economics and Finance in Manhattan. She is a hard worker and is interested in improving her community and finding solutions to the problems she cares about.
Jenny Rosendo
Jenny is a 17-year-old attending her final year of high school at Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences. She is interested in improving her community and shedding light on important issues affecting her beloved community.
Steven Wang
Steven is a freshman at New York University, studying English and hoping to double major in Urban Studies. He is passionate about exploring the intersection of urban studies and journalism.
Fanglin Xu
Fanglin is a 16-year-old student at Queens High School for the Sciences. She loves the arts, including reading, writing, and painting, and is interested in combining her passion for storytelling and activism through journalism.
Aurora Zhang
Aurora is a 16-year-old junior in Brooklyn Technical High School. She has always loved to read and is often found painting in her free time. She is still exploring her future career options but is working on bits of a novel she never gets to finish.
Isabella Mason
Isabella is a 17-year-old senior at Midwood High School, where she finds intersections between advocacy and performing arts. She writes for Midwood’s ‘Argus’ newspaper and dances in various cultural productions.
Aniah Miller
Aniah is a senior attending Beacon High School. Born in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn, Aniah loves to explore the fun the city offers, study film and television, and write stories.
Cheikh Seck
Cheikh is a senior at Bronx International High School. He is interested in journalism because he recognizes that advancing human rights requires communication skills. He contributes to his school newspaper by writing about the flaws in their city.
Salsabeela Usmanu
Salsabeela is a 17-year-old girl who was born in the Bronx. She is a senior at Bronx Preparatory Charter School and aims to attend college soon. She acknowledges her diverse Islamic and West African heritage and is learning to take pride in it after coming from a community that expressed dislike towards her culture.
Dehnver McGregor
Dehnver is a 17-year-old New York City resident who has a passion for writing. She is involved in a variety of programs centered around the humanities, covering everything from acting to journalism.
Dora Dulge
Dora is a 16-year-old junior at the United Nations International School (UNIS), with Turkish and Bulgarian roots. She is passionate about writing and research and is committed to international advocacy.
Ishma Rashid
Ishma is a junior at A. Philip Randolph Campus High School. She is very curious and passionate about learning. Ishma is keeping her options open for the future, but is exploring careers in the humanities, such as journalism and law.
Nora Kouyate
Nora is a 16-year-old junior attending University Heights High School. She has lived in many places across the world, but has spent most of her life being raised in The Bronx. She is exposed to the harsh reality of life early on and was inspired to love activism and pursuing a career in law.
