Mysterious Drones Spotted in South Jersey, Investigations Continue
Recent Sightings in Evesham and Surrounding Areas
Amid reports of mysterious nighttime drone flights in central and northern New Jersey, sightings are now being reported in South Jersey. Evesham police have confirmed that they are "aware of the recent surge in drone activity" in the skies above Burlington County township.
Large, Unusual Drones Spotted
Evesham police started receiving calls about drones overhead around 8 p.m. on December 5, 2024. Chief Walt Miller described the drones as "not like the normal drone that someone would purchase and use." Some of the drones were described as "as large as an SUV with blinking lights on them."
Winds and Drone Activity
Miller noted that with strong winds blowing, smaller drones likely wouldn’t have been easy to fly. The ability to navigate those winds gave investigators "greater concern."
Multiple Sightings
Police tracked between four to eight drones overhead until around 11:15 p.m. when the "drone activity" moved toward Cherry Hill, Miller said. Other police departments, including Medford Township and Mount Laurel, also received complaints, and Miller was aware of sightings into Ocean County.
Investigations and Collaboration
Evesham police are working with state and federal authorities to identify the drone operators and understand the purpose of this activity. The police have no information on who the drones belong to, but are trying to find out if these large drones are connected to what’s happening further north in New Jersey.
