Located on First Avenue across the street from City Hall, a symbol of Watervliet’s past is being reimagined for the future. The Watervliet Cultural Community Center, formally known as the Dutch Reformed Church, is now a meeting place for the community.
A New Lease on Life
The Watervliet Charitable Foundation has purchased an electronic Carillon bell system for the Community Center, allowing the city to mix nostalgia with history. According to Mayor Charles Patricelli, the bells will ring on the hour from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., a tradition that coincides with the Watervliet Arsenal’s bugle renditions of Reveille, Retreat and Mess Call, and Taps.
