The 2024 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree: A New England Gem

A Local Favorite in Massachusetts

This year’s Rockefeller Center Christmas tree comes from a strong New England accent, and locals couldn’t be more thrilled. The Norway spruce hails from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where it was planted 67 years ago in honor of the homeowner’s nieces. The tree was scheduled to be cut down on Thursday and make the roughly 140-mile journey south, arriving on November 9 in midtown Manhattan.

A Trip to Remember

Resident Bernie Fallon shared, "There’s a lot of people coming to town that are interested in this. So people are at the house taking pictures and excited about it. The talk of the town, local gossip and conversation is quite high." Another resident, Peter Giles Thorne, called it a "wonderful story." "A hometown tree makes good," he said with a chuckle.

A Global Attraction

Tourists Michael and Tania Hardinger from Denmark visited the tree, traveling from New York and driving up to Massachusetts. "We call it the scenic route. So it took six hours instead of 2.5 hours," Michael Hardinger said. "But we found it and we found the tree. And we are very happy." The Hardingers are big on Christmas, with their family having two and sometimes three Christmas trees in their house in Copenhagen. They will return to Denmark to play a few concerts before coming back to New York to do some Christmas shopping and visit the tree again at Rockefeller Center.

The Tree Lighting Show

The tree will be lit during a live TV broadcast on December 4, featuring 50,000 multi-colored lights with a Swarovski star on top and will remain on display until mid-January. The Tree Lighting Show is set to kick off at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, December 4. You can watch NBC’s "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" in a live broadcast on TV, on Peacock, and wherever you stream NBC 4 New York.

Conclusion

The 2024 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is a beloved tradition, bringing joy and excitement to both locals and tourists alike. This year’s tree from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, is a special treat, and we can’t wait to see it lit up during the annual tree lighting show.
