Union Offense Looks to Keep Rolling
Introduction to the Team’s Performance
SCHENECTADY, NY (NEWS10) — After opening the year with a tie against Army West Point, the Union Men’s Hockey team found their rhythm this past weekend, going on the road and sweeping a two-game set against Mercyhurst.
The Garnet Chargers lit up the scoreboard this past weekend, finding the back of the net 10 times across the two contests. Winning on Friday night 5-2, before rallying from a 3-goal deficit to win on Saturday 5-3.
Analysis of the Team’s Offense
This was quite the change in offensive production for Union after their opener in which they scored just one goal despite putting 39 shots on target against Army.
A high scoring output is something the team knows they are capable of on a regular basis, something the Garnet Chargers will look to do once again this upcoming weekend when they host Niagara for a pair of games at the M&T Bank Center.
Upcoming Matchups and Confidence
The offensive improvement has given Union a boost in confidence going into the matchup with the Purple Eagles, as they hope to take another step forward.
"I think it’s, for us, an area that we know we have to be better at," said Head Coach, Josh Hauge. "Take a really good step this past weekend, was encouraging. Now we’re going to see a team in Niagara that defends really hard and protects the front of their net, similar to Army. So, we’re going to have to make sure we get there."
Game Schedule
The Garnet Chargers will host Union on Friday and Saturday, both games are scheduled to start at 8 p.m. each day.
The games for the Men’s Hockey team will follow the games from the Ice Breaker Tournament, hosted by the Union Women’s Hockey team. The tournament will feature the Garnet Chargers, Saint Anselm, Vermont, and the number 1 team in the nation and defending national champions, Wisconsin.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Union Men’s Hockey team has shown significant improvement in their offense after a slow start to the season. With their upcoming games against Niagara, the team looks to continue their momentum and take another step forward in their performance. The Garnet Chargers’ ability to score goals and their confidence boost will be crucial in their upcoming matchups.
