On-Time Flights

Travelers Share Experiences

"We were supposed to leave last night. We backed it up one day just to make sure it looked like the hurricane would be out to sea… And it really didn’t look like it was going to impact the area that we’re going to," said Dan Wilber, who was headed to Tampa from Otsego County.

"My family at home boarded up my house. They called me today and said everything’s all boarded, all the shutters, however, no power," said Carol Stallings, who was headed home to Malabar, FL, via Orlando airport.

Enjoying the Warm Weather

Cameron, a traveler from Hudson Falls, was excited to be headed to his timeshare in Kissimmee, outside Orlando. "Hang around, play some golf, enjoy the warm weather… I’ve never been there right after a hurricane, so all new to me," he said.

Update from Siesta Key

The Mattison family, who stayed with relatives in Utica, escaped Hurricane Milton’s wrath in Siesta Key, near Tampa. Gianna Mattison mentioned that her parents stayed behind as her father works on hurricane relief efforts. "We just know we’re out of power!" her brother Miles exclaimed. Their father, Eric, added, "Yeah, we’re out of power!"

Flights Continue to Depart

Halfway to high noon, the Mattisons’ plane took off, heading up to the Upstate skies. Soon after, flight tracker radar showed they were on their way to Tampa. More were scheduled to depart for Central Florida later that evening and into the weekend.

Travelers from the Capital Region were relieved to be on their way to Tampa and Orlando, after Hurricane Milton’s impact was less severe than expected. Despite the initial concerns, they were able to enjoy their trips, exploring new destinations and relaxing in the warm sun.
