The Susquehanna SPCA’s Efforts

COOPERSTOWN, NY (NEWS10) — The Susquehanna SPCA in Cooperstown is helping dogs and is gearing up to help more animals from Hurricane Milton as well.

Meet Tony

Meet Tony, a 7-year-old boxer who has recently become a new resident at the Susquehanna SPCA. Tony was moved from a shelter in Tennessee that needed to make room for animals displaced by Hurricane Helene.

Shelter Dogs and Cats

The Susquehanna SPCA is taking shelter dogs and cats, which frees up local shelters to hopefully still reunite people with their pets. As Executive Director Stacie Haynes explained, "We’re taking shelter dogs or cats and then that frees up the local shelters so they can hopefully still reunite people with their pets."

Adoptable Dogs

Tony is one of five dogs brought to the Susquehanna SPCA because of Hurricane Helene. All of these furry friends are seeking a forever home. Haynes said, "We’re confident that the five dogs that they sent us will move pretty quickly. They are pretty sweet, they’re very friendly, and very adoptable."

Fostering and Adoption

Haynes emphasized that even if you can’t provide a forever home, you can still help. "We can’t do any of the work that we do, you know, helping without folks who are willing to open up their hearts and be able to help us foster, adopt, even come in and visit and socialize and even help them become more adoptable." The executive director said giving those dogs a family will help free up space for the future animals sure to be impacted by Hurricane Milton.

Conclusion

Tony’s face was wrought with sadness, but you can help make him and other dogs at the Susquehanna SPCA a lot happier by adopting them. For more information on how you can help, click here: https://www.sqspca.org/adopt/.
