Introduction to the Championship Game

WATERFORD, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A year after finishing as co-section champs with Fort Ann, the Northville boys soccer team’s 2025 campaign culminated in a second straight section title in Class D. And the Falcons have this one all to themselves.

Northville, the top seed in the Section 2, Class D tournament, blew out third-seeded Middleburgh, 7-0, in Monday night’s championship game at Waterford-Halfmoon Jr/Sr High School. Senior forward Braydn Bovee and sophomore forward McQuade Klippel shined in the victory, each recording a hat trick.

History of Northville’s Success

Throughout program history, Northville has racked up 24 section titles, and boats multiple stretches of consecutive championship seasons.
But this is the first time since the teams of 2008 and 2009 that the Falcons have gone back-to-back, and Bovee is proud to put his stamp in the record book.
"I’ve been dreamin’ of this stuff since I was a little kid," said Bovee. "I watched some of those teams go back-to-back. It was awesome. This is a dream come true."

The Championship Game

Bovee got Northville going offensively with a goal in the 20th minute off a cross from McQuade. After that, the goals started flooding in.
McQuade found the back of the net for the first time 13 minutes later. Just before halftime, he picked up his fourth point of the half, assisting Bovee again for the senior’s second goal, and the Falcons took a 3-0 advantage into the break.
Bovee completed his hat trick a little over 10 minutes into the second half; assisted by McQuade once more. McQuade netted the next two Northville goals, finishing the match with a staggering nine points on three goals and three assists. Logan Hammons provided the finally tally in the 72nd minute, striking from just inside the box off a feed from Bovee, who, with the assist, finished with seven total points.

Post-Game Analysis

Monday’s performance was the exclamation point on a dominant tournament run for the Falcons. In three games, they outscored their opponents 19-0.
"The thing about this team is that they work together; they’re not just individuals," said head coach Steve Clapper. "They’re willing to work off each other, feed off each other, and that’s what’s really amazing about this group. It’s a good group of guys, and they’re really getting what they deserve."

What’s Next for Northville

And Northville’s journey isn’t done quite yet. It’s on to the state tournament, and the Falcons will look to avenge a runner-up finish last year. Their first test in the tournament will come in the Regional Championship – a battle with Section 7 champion Chazy on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Middleburgh finishes the season with an overall record of 8-7-4. This was the Knights’ first sectional championship game appearance in 19 years.
