According to police, they responded to the scene of the attack Wednesday night shortly before 11:15 p.m. When police arrived at the residence they found a 31-year-old woman with a stab wound to her abdomen and a slash on her face. A 12-year-old girl was also found with multiple stab wounds to the head and a slash on her face. Although a 2- and 5-year-old were present inside the residence, police said they were not hurt.

Burnside was also present with an injury to his wrist. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the woman is the mother to the children. Burnside is the stepfather to the 12-year-old and father to the younger children. It was also determined, police said, that he was the attacker.

The NYPD said that the woman is in stable condition, while the 12-year-old girl is in critical condition. The two younger children were also sent to the hospital for evaluation.
