Introduction to NYU Langone’s Achievement
New York City hospitals have once again earned top spots in national health care rankings, with NYU Langone Health earning No. 1 recognition as a “comprehensive academic medical center” for the fourth year in a row.
Vizient, a health care improvement company, announced its rankings in several categories this week.
NYU Langone’s Rankings and Accolades
Langone’s Brooklyn and Long Island hospitals earned specific accolades, as did Northwell Health, Hackensack University Medical Center and several hospitals within the NewYork-Presbyterian system including Weill Cornell Medical Center. This is the fourth year in a row that NYU Langone’s Manhattan inpatient locations took the top spot on the list of comprehensive academic medical centers. The Long Island and Brooklyn hospitals were in the top 10 for the large specialized complex medical center category.
Reaction from NYU Langone Health
“This recognition is further affirmation of the top-quality health care patients can expect across all NYU Langone locations,” Alec Kimmelman, CEO of NYU Langone Health and dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine, said in a press release. “It also reflects the work of our dedicated and talented teams every day on the frontlines and behind the scenes. Everyone at NYU Langone played a role in this incredible achievement.”
The Quality and Accountability Study
This year marks the 20th year of the Quality and Accountability Study, which draws on data from Vizient, the CDC and a national survey capturing patients’ perspectives on hospital care. Hospitals vying for the Bernard A. Birnbaum Quality Leadership Award were ranked on key metrics including safety, mortality, efficiency and patient centeredness.
Rankings of Other Hospitals
NewYork-Presbyterian made a strong showing, with its Brooklyn Methodist and Queens hospitals both earning top spots in the large, specialized complex care category. NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island also ranked highly, clinching third place in the same cohort.

In the community hospital category, NewYork-Presbyterian’s Allen Hospital secured third place, while Northwell Health’s Syosset Hospital squeaked into the top tier at No. 21.
Pediatric Hospitals Rankings
Meanwhile, when it comes to caring for the city’s smallest patients, Hackensack University Medical Center ranked third among the nation’s best pediatric hospitals. Atlantic Health’s Morristown Medical Center, the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and New York-Presbyterian — Weill Cornell Medical Center also earned top spots on the pediatric list, placing fifth, 11th and 12th, respectively.

US News & World Report Rankings
Earlier this year, four NYC-area hospitals landed on US News & World Report’s annual “honor roll” that recognizes medical centers providing high-quality care. Mount Sinai Hospital, New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell, NYU Langone Hospitals and Hackensack University Medical Center at Hackensack Meridian Health in Hackensack, NJ, all made the list for their “Best Hospitals” rankings in July. They also tied for first place for best regional hospitals in the NYC metro area.
NYU Langone’s Specialties Rankings
NYU Langone Health had more No. 1-ranked specialties than any US medical center: neurology and neurosurgery (for the fourth consecutive year); cardiology, heart and vascular surgery; pulmonology and lung surgery; and geriatric care. Mount Sinai made the top 10 for five specialties, up from four in 2024, and top 20 rankings in nine specialties, while New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell had 12 specialties in the top 10.
Conclusion
NYU Langone Health’s achievement of being ranked as the top comprehensive academic medical center for the fourth year in a row is a testament to the hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality patient care. The rankings also highlight the strength of New York City’s hospitals, with several other hospitals in the city earning top spots in various categories.
