Peaches the Dog Finds Forever Home After Brutal Attack

Peaches the dog has officially found her forever home after almost being decapitated by a samurai sword four years ago.
Haleigh Miller was able to adopt her after two-and-a-half years of fostering.

The Journey to Recovery

“My friend sent me the whole story on her, and I followed it for about a year, and then I was like, ‘Alright. I gotta go get her.’ So I came here and started fostering her,” explained Miller. She spent 2021 healing at Columbia-Greene Humane Society with President Ron Perez. Peaches was available to foster in 2022 after recovering from multiple surgeries costing in the thousands of dollars.

Overcoming Initial Fears

Miller described to NEWS10’s Anthony Krolikowski that Peaches was skittish towards her at first. To help, the two spent three weeks at home together. She still doesn’t like car rides but came around after getting some toys and living on a hobby farm.

A New Life and Job

Eventually, Peaches even got her own job as a cattle dog. “During the summer, we do let our goats out and free range, and we leave her out just to protect because she’s very protective of her animals. When it comes time to bring ‘em in, she does her job and herds them all back into the door.” Where she was slashed is now a scar, covered by the collar Haleigh gave her. It doesn’t bother Peaches; she just keeps on running and playing. When not on her favorite job, Peaches loves going on walks and snuggling with Miller.

Personal Impact

“She had a great impact on my life. I recently moved to a place where I didn’t know anybody, it was up in the mountains. So having her with me, she was like my best friend every single day.”
