A Dream House in Washington County

Elizabeth and Ethan Finkelstein, the power couple behind Cheap Old Houses on HGTV, have a love story that began in Brooklyn. But it was a special house that drew them to put down roots in Washington County.

The House that Brought Them Together

In 2024, NEWS10 caught up with Elizabeth and Ethan Finkelstein at Waverly Square Antiques in Ballston Spa. They are one of more than 40 vendors set up in the space. According to HGTV.com, "Historic-home experts Ethan and Elizabeth Finkelstein help homebuyers find old properties sold at ridiculously inexpensive prices. Then they restore these architectural gems to new glory." In addition to the show, they have a book, website, and social media presence promoting and preserving historic homes.

A Childhood Dream

"What brought us here to Washington County, I guess ultimately was the house that Elizabeth had been showing me since I had been dating her. She said this house is my favorite house in the entire world," said Ethan.

"It was my dream house when I was like 5 years old. My mom and I would drive by this house," said Elizabeth.

Living in Their Dream Home

The duo says it is surreal to live in their "dream home." The couple is also in the process of renovating an old farmhouse in their community.
