Ideal Winter for the Slopes

This Winter Season is Ideal for the Slopes

A Record-Breaking Start to the Season

GREENE COUNTY, N.Y. – Two feet of snow welcomed winter sports enthusiasts to Hunter Mountain on opening day, marking a record-breaking start to the season. Compared to past warmer seasons, the cold weather has kept its slopes covered, offering a winter wonderland for skiers and snowboarders.

New Snow Guns and Artificial Trails

142 new snow guns have been installed to create artificial snow for fresh trails, providing an additional 20 acres of skiable terrain. “We’ve been able to offer as many trails as we’ve had previously in nearly a decade,” stated Trent Poole, Vice President and General Manager of Hunter Mountain.

A Few Challenging Conditions

While the weather has been ideal for snowmaking, the strong winds have caused some challenges. Some lifts had to be temporarily shut down for safety reasons. “We have so many layers. We don’t care about wind, about snow, sleet, whatnot; we’re good to go at all times!” exclaimed Vera Kemper, Level One Ski Instructor.

Ski Instructors’ Thoughts on the Season

Vera and her coworker Brandon, who drove to work during Thursday morning’s snowfall, mentioned that some skiers and snowboarders canceled their lessons due to road conditions. However, they expect to see a comeback in the coming days as the conditions improve. “We’re excited to get back out there and hit the slopes,” Brandon said.

Conclusion

This winter season has started strong, with a record-breaking snowfall and new snow guns to create artificial trails. While the strong winds have presented some challenges, the slopes are still open and ready for winter sports enthusiasts. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skier or snowboarder, this season is ideal for hitting the slopes.
