A Life of Adventure and Passion: Remembering Jonathan Campos

Jonathan Campos had always dreamed of being a pilot. He was a man who knew how to live life to the fullest and lived by his own rules.

A Life of Adventure

Growing up in Brooklyn, Jonathan Campos was a thrill-seeker, always looking for the next big adventure. Whether it was riding motorcycles, scuba diving, or sky diving, he was a man who lived life to the fullest. His high school friend and former fiancé, Nicole Suissa, remembered him as a fun-loving and adventurous person who always had a big personality.

A Passion for Aviation

For Jonathan, his passion for aviation was more than just a job – it was his calling. He attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at the age of 18 and became a pilot for American Airlines, flying for six years and earning the rank of captain for three. His friend Nicole described him as a "damn good pilot" who always wanted to be a pilot.

Tragic Accident

Tragedy struck on January 29 when Jonathan’s life was cut short in a mid-air collision between his plane and a military helicopter over the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. The accident resulted in the loss of 67 lives.

Remembering Jonathan’s Legacy

In the wake of his passing, Nicole Suissa wants to protect his legacy and push back against unfounded claims that diversity hiring practices could have caused the crash. "He was a good pilot, and I don’t think that this has anything to do with DEI," she said. "I think unfortunately this is being politicized and that’s completely inappropriate."

A Final Farewell

The Campos family is still making funeral arrangements, but they will be celebrating Jonathan’s life at his burial in New York, where he will be laid to rest alongside his father. Nicole Suissa remembered him as a man who knew how to live and wanted to be happy, even if they couldn’t be together. "I just hope whatever the hell he’s doing up there, he’s happy," she said.
