A Journey Across the Globe

Martha Piggot and her 7-year-old son Jacob flew from Malawi, Africa, to Ethiopia, then to Washington, D.C., and finally to Buffalo, a total distance of over 8,000 miles. “Lots of airplanes,” Martha said, describing their journey.

A Family Affair

The two were visiting family on Grand Island, where Martha grew up. She decided to take Jacob to a playoff game while they were in town. “Growing up a Bills fan is just the coolest experience, and it’s been really fun to share it with my son,” Martha said. Jacob’s favorite Bills player is quarterback Josh Allen.

A Sign of Their Dedication

At Sunday’s game between the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens, Jacob held up a sign letting people know just how far they traveled to be there. His favorite part was when a few players signed it, including Bills defensive end A.J. Epenesa.

A Global Fanbase

Martha’s family is constantly showcasing their love for the Bills and Buffalo, even from 8,000 miles away. “We’re very proud of it,” Martha said. “We’ve got pictures on safari in our Bills gear, at Lake Malawi in our Bills stuff, and even when we travel, even if we’re not in Buffalo, you’ll always find a Bills fan, I swear.”

Spreading the Buffalove

Martha’s son Jacob even has a school in Malawi where he’s an international student. “His school in Malawi is an international school, so there’s kids from all over the world, and they don’t say Jacob is from America, they say he’s from Buffalo because he’s always talking about Buffalo and the Bills,” Martha said. “They have a day where you dress as your home country, and we dress in Bills stuff. We’re spreading the Buffalove all over Malawi.”

A Journey Worth Taking

The two say they would travel 48 hours again just to go to another Bills game. For them, the journey was worth it to experience the excitement of a playoff game with their favorite team.

Conclusion

Martha and Jacob’s journey is a testament to the dedication and passion of Bills fans around the world. Their story is a reminder that even from afar, the love for the team can bring people together.
