The Bobcat: A New Thrill for Six Flags Great Escape
A New Addition to the Park’s Collection
The Bobcat, a new wooden roller coaster at Six Flags Great Escape, has been named one of the best new theme park attractions in the world, according to a report from USA Today. The coaster was the first new roller coaster introduced to the park since 2003.
A Replacement for a Beloved Attraction
The coaster opened in May 2024 for the park’s 70th anniversary celebration. It replaced the long-time attraction Alpine Bobsled, a bobsled-style coaster that operated for 25 years.
A Trackless Coaster with a Lot of Character
The Alpine Bobsled was a trackless coaster with toboggans cruising along the twists and turns of a smooth halfpipe, that required careful testing to ensure readiness for use. The ride officially closed in September 2023.
Park President’s Vision for the New Attraction
“We knew we had to find a perfect fit to replace the Alpine Bobsled in the hearts of our guests,” Park President Rebecca Wood said in August 2023. “This beautiful, all-natural wooden family coaster will deliver a smooth, fast, and heart-pounding experience. It is sure to be an instant classic.”
A Smooth and Fast Ride
According to the park, the ride is its second wooden coaster, joining longtime coaster The Comet. The 55-foot-tall ride reaches speeds of 40 miles per hour.
Other Notable Attractions on the USA Today List
Other rides on the USA Today list include the Iron Menace at Dorney Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Penguin Trek at SeaWorld Orlando in Florida, and Good Gravy! at Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana.
