Esports Arena Brings Gaming to the Capital Region
The esports industry is growing rapidly in the Capital Region, and a new arena from VDO Gaming & eSports Education is opening its doors to gamers of all ages and skill levels. The veteran-owned business has been hosting tournaments since 2014, but this marks the first time they have had a permanent location.
A Home for Gamers
The Crossman family, owners of VDO and Claim to Fame, have been hosting tournaments and events for years. However, they have always been on the go, lugging equipment from place to place. "We held a high school invitational last year at the MVP Arena, and we had 12 high schools come out," said Michael Crossman, General Manager of VDO and CEO of Claim to Fame. "They were mostly local, but throughout New York state."
A Computer Lab for Schools and Businesses
The new arena is more than just a gaming facility – it’s a computer lab for schools and businesses. With 25 computers and 12 consoles, it’s a hub for esports teams, education, and community events. "You can come down and use our equipment and our facility for your training, your esports team, education," said John Crossman, Owner of VDO and CFO of Claim to Fame.
Accessibility for All
Accessibility is key at VDO. The arena is open to everyone, from casual gamers to professionals. "As a gamer, you have your setup, and sometimes you don’t have the best equipment. So, we want to provide that for someone who might want to go to the next level or play with their friend and they don’t have two systems," explained Michael Crossman.
Grand Opening Event
To celebrate its soft launch, VDO will host a Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The arena will also act as a bridge between high schools and colleges, guiding gamers down a path in esports. Its hard launch will be in April with the 4th annual High School Esports Showcase.
Conclusion
VDO Gaming & eSports Education is an exciting addition to the Capital Region’s growing esports scene. With its commitment to accessibility, community engagement, and education, it’s set to become a hub for gamers of all ages and skill levels. Stay tuned for more information on upcoming events and tournaments at VDO.
