ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) — After over 25 years of leading the Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) boys basketball team, Dave Doemel stepped down last season. The new era has begun, and Galal Cancer has taken over, bringing with him a wealth of experience and knowledge gained from his playing days under Doemel.
A Familiar Face
Cancer has a strong connection to CBA, having led the team to three straight section titles from 2009-2011, including a state title in his junior season. He then went on to play at Cornell and Kent State. This is a dream come true for Cancer, who never expected to become the varsity coach at just 12 years old.

I’m very, very serious when it comes to the game. It’s always been, be yourself. If I have questions, I’m able to ask. Seek guidance when I need it. So again, I’m just out here doing what I do every day, something that I love," Doemel advised.
