Reggie’s Closet: A Walk-In Closet for FMCC Students
A New Addition to the Campus
In the Student Success area of the Fulton-Montgomery Community College library, a walk-in closet has been added, expanding on the free services being offered to students. Named after the SUNY college’s mascot, Reggie’s Closet is a donation-based program that provides more than 500 free items of clothing from baby sizes to 3XL.
A Story Behind the Closet
Before the room was transformed into Reggie’s Closet, it was part of the pantry on campus. Luis Maidonado, Leader of Reggie’s Closet, explained that the closet was getting filled with bags and the decision was made to convert it into a walk-in closet. "Students just pop in and out to see the items because we are donation-based so items change really quickly," said Maidonado.
How it Works
Reggie’s Closet has a limit of 10 pieces a week that anyone in the FMCC community can take home for themselves or their family. If a need is still not met, employees like Maidonado recommend more resources. "If we see someone taking a lot of clothing, they may need extra help. So, we implore them to talk to us so we can get them into a local clothing bank," he added.
Volunteers and Donations
From Monday to Friday, noon to 3 p.m., paid volunteers are ready to help. Anyone looking to donate can fill out this form. There will be a donation drive on December 10, 2024, in front of the Rao Theater during Winter Fest.
Conclusion
Reggie’s Closet is a valuable resource for FMCC students, providing a convenient and accessible way to obtain clothing. With its donation-based model and limit on items per week, the closet ensures that everyone has an equal opportunity to benefit from the service.
