Fashion starts with creative thinkers and bold risk takers. One institute in North Miami is giving designers a chance to win their own show at New York Fashion Week. The Fashion Institute of Florida (FIF) is dedicated to helping aspiring designers and sewers fulfill their dreams.<\/p>\n
Every year, the top designer from the graduating class dreams of an opportunity of a lifetime. The winner of the competition gets to showcase their designs in a solo show at New York Fashion Week, sponsored by the school. Last year’s winner, Stefanie Miot, manifested her big W and took her inspiration from classical music.<\/p>\n
Stefanie’s New York solo show was inspired by Mozart’s story. She designed a collection that blended high-end fashion with a touch of street wear. Her advice to underclasswomen is to be yourself and design from the heart. “The culture here is that you can graduate, but you always belong,” she said.<\/p>\n
The students at FIF agree that the institute feels like a family. “It just feels very homey,” said Julia Corbridge. “It’s like a family,” added Kaiomi Shimeles. Seraiah Littlejohn emphasized that the institute is a community, not just an educational institution.<\/p>\n
The talented students at FIF are excited to showcase their designs. Seraiah’s collection is based on corsetry, while Kaiomi’s is inspired by penguins. Julia is working on three looks for the show, featuring white silk and beading.<\/p>\n
