And every year, he struggled until something clicked in 2025. Overweight since he was 5 or 6, the now 34-year-old tried keto, intermittent fasting and every crash diet under the sun. None of them stuck. In January 2025, he decided to simplify things. He’d try to eat better and move a bit more, he told himself. He wouldn’t quit if he didn’t see immediate results. Instead, he committed to doing the best he could at the happiest place he could think of: Disneyland Resort.

For a year, Haque walked the theme park’s hundreds of acres, logging miles, enjoying rides and snacking on whole foods he brought from home to keep him fueled. For a year, Haque filmed his walks and became a viral sensation online. For a year, he tracked his weight loss and found himself 75 pounds down by the year’s end, and he’s just getting started.

A Mindset Shift

Haque had trouble walking at first. Because of his weight, he “suffered from a lot of chronic conditions,” he tells TODAY.com. The main one was Achilles tendinopathy, or chronic inflammation of the Achilles tendon, which allows the calf to exert force onto the heel, crucial for walk and running, the National Institutes of Health explains. At 338 pounds, “I wouldn’t be able to walk more than 20 or 30 minutes without debilitating sharp pain in my right Achilles, which would kind of discourage me from trying to walk again,” Haque recalls. But when his father had a stroke and struggled to walk on his own, Haque became determined to do whatever it took to lessen the pain in his legs. “That was also motivation for me,” says Haque. “It gave me perspective to look at not only my own health, but also kind of a way for me to be like, ‘Since he can’t walk like he used to, I walk for him and I’ll film for him to see me.’”

Walks through the Park

Haque is no stranger to Disneyland. He worked there until his father’s 2022 stroke, after which he switched to a remote job so he could stay home and help his family care for his father. He saw the park through new eyes, however, when he went there for fitness. Haque took his first walk through Disneyland, filming the experience for social media, on Jan. 17, 2025. It allowed his father to monitor his progress and started a community online to hold him accountable to his new lifestyle. He instantly noticed the difference from all his other weight loss attempts. “The reason why it’s different this time is because I feel like I had people behind me, or just a bit more support than before,” Haque says. “That gave me a reason to keep going.” Comments of support and admiration flooded his TikTok account. When he wouldn’t post, he’d receive messages asking for updates about his health and the latest happenings at the park.

A Newfound Love for Walking

As the weight began to come off and the pain in his legs lessened (before disappearing altogether), Haque realized that getting up and being active after work required little convincing. Every day, he’d sign off, eat a protein-packed meal and drive the 20 minutes from his family’s home to the park. Once he’d walk through Disneyland’s entrance, “the steps take care of themselves,” says Haque. He’d find himself walking toward the Lunar New Year celebrations, a firework show, a character meet-and-greet or a ride with a shorter line than usual. “There’s always something going on,” which ensured he got the most out of his annual park pass, he explains. Neil Haque rarely had a destination in mind during his walks. He’d hop on rides and enjoy the park’s entertainment that came his way. “Walking is a tool,” says Haque. But “diet is the most important thing,” and so he stresses avoiding the high-calorie and sugary foods at the theme park. During his 5-6 mile daily walks, Haque snacks on a protein bar or beef jerky he brings with him. At home, he keeps a refrigerator in his bedroom instead of sharing the kitchen’s fridge with his family to make sure he sticks to his whole food diet.

Coming Up Next Season

“I like to see my weight loss journey like a season of a TV show,” says Haque. Season one brought him down to 265 pounds, and now Haque can walk without pain. Now, instead of working toward a lower number on the scale, he’s writing and directing next season’s arc. Season two, he says, is about skydiving. “I measure by how my life changes… So, for now, I want to get to a lower weight so I can go skydiving. That gives me motivation instead of thinking, ‘Oh, I want a certain number.’” says Haque. For season three, he thinks he’ll focus on updating his wardrobe with better-fitting clothes. A storyline through them all, he promises, will be walking. Even with these new feats,“hopefully I can retain those habits, and keep them with me,” he adds.

Conclusion

Neil Haque’s journey is a testament to the power of mindset and community in achieving weight loss goals. By finding a supportive environment and focusing on progressive, enjoyable steps towards health, Haque was able to overcome years of struggle and find success. His story serves as an inspiration to those looking to embark on their own weight loss journey, reminding us that every step, no matter how small, counts towards a healthier, happier life.

FAQs

Q: How much weight did Neil Haque lose?

A: Neil Haque lost 75 pounds over the course of a year.

Q: What was Haque’s primary form of exercise?

A: Haque’s primary form of exercise was walking, specifically around Disneyland Resort.

Q: What motivated Haque to start his weight loss journey?

A: Haque was motivated by his father’s stroke and his own desire to improve his health, as well as the support he received from his online community.

Q: What is Haque’s approach to diet?

A: Haque stresses the importance of diet, focusing on whole foods and avoiding high-calorie and sugary foods, especially those found at the theme park.

Q: What are Haque’s future goals?

A: Haque’s future goals include skydiving and updating his wardrobe with better-fitting clothes, with walking remaining a central part of his lifestyle.

Introduction to a Life-Changing Journey Every new year, Neil Haque made weight loss his resolution.
