Charter Bus Companies Say School Owes Them Money for Transportation Services

Investigation Uncovers Large Bills Left Unpaid

As the new school year approaches, two South Florida charter bus companies are left with big bills to collect from a local school that hired their services for multiple trips. Atlantic Charters Inc. and Gold Star Transportation Inc. are two companies affected by the unpaid invoices.

A Disputed Total of $18,100

According to Atlantic Charters Inc. owner Barrington Samuels, the school, Youth Under Construction Youth Center in Pompano Beach, owes them $16,100 for nine trips taken in March and April. Samuels said the school had initially hired the company to transport students to cities like Tampa and Jacksonville. "We sent the invoices over, hoping that within 30 days we would be paid," Samuels explained. However, months have passed, and the company has yet to receive payment.

Gold Star Transportation Inc. owner Dawna Mullings also claims the school owes her over $2,000 for a single trip in February. Mullings stated that a representative from the school was supposed to pay the day of the trip but forgot to bring the check. The check she finally received later on bounced, and she has yet to receive payment.

School’s Apology and Plan to Pay

In an interview, Youth Under Construction Youth Center Principal Delvin King accepted responsibility for the situation, admitting that the school was unaware that the hired management company was not paying the charter bus companies on its behalf. King explained that the school has since fired the management company and is working to rectify the situation. He sent a letter apologizing to the charter bus companies, promising to pay the outstanding invoices on or before August 23rd, 2024.

Conclusion

The two charter bus companies, Atlantic Charters Inc. and Gold Star Transportation Inc., are left hoping to receive the payment they are owed. With the new school year approaching, they are eager to start a new chapter and continue providing services to schools in the region.
