Tragedy Strikes in Coconut Creek: 19-Year-Old Shot and Killed
Officer’s Search for Shooter Continues
Police in Coconut Creek are still searching for a shooter who gunned down 19-year-old Bryce McFadden at a condo complex on Tuesday evening. McFadden was shot and killed at around 6 p.m. at Coco Parc condominium, police said.
Residents Forced to Shelter in Place
Residents of the condo complex were forced to shelter in place for hours as officers searched for the shooter. The incident has left the community in shock.
Remembering Bryce McFadden
Bryce McFadden was a student at Youth Under Construction, a program that helps at-risk youth. Principal Delvin King described McFadden as "that student that everyone gathered around."
"He was very devastating, for someone who hasn’t lived a long life to be taken so early," said Christian Brooks, a student at the program.
Another Student Fatality
This is not the first time a student from the program has fallen victim to gun violence. King shared a photo of McFadden with another student who was killed just a few months prior.
Community Efforts to Address Gun Violence
King emphasized the need to address community issues, saying, "We are doing a lot of work inside the classroom, but now we are trying to go outside of the classroom to fix some of these community issues."
Investigation Ongoing
Detectives have not released additional information on the shooting, but say it was not random.
Call for Justice
Brooks urged the shooter and anyone involved to come forward, saying, "To the shooter or whoever may be involved, we just want justice. And it shouldn’t have taken place in the first place."
