Norris wins Hungarian Grand Prix

Must read

Hungarian Grand Prix Recap

Lando Norris dropped from third to fifth on the opening lap of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
But 70 laps later, he crossed the line first to win thanks to a one-stop strategy change, tire management and flawless driving.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri closed the gap to within one second in the final five laps, giving him a chance to overtake his teammate for the victory in Budapest. But Norris fended off every charge and held on to win by 0.698 seconds, a key points swing in the narrow championship battle.

Championship Battle Heats Up

Piastri now enters the summer break nine points ahead of Norris, a gap that would’ve been 23 points had the Australian passed the Briton for the win. The victory was McLaren’s 200th win as a team, joining Ferrari as the only other team to reach that feat. It was McLaren’s seventh 1-2 finish of the season, including its fourth in a row.

Podium Finishers

George Russell rounded out the podium in third for Mercedes, ahead of pole-sitter Charles Leclerc for Ferrari — who saw poor strategy and car fall-off spoil his chance at victory. Leclerc led 28 laps in the grand prix, his most in a race this season. Norris was able to gain ground due to only pitting one time for new tires, compared to twice for Piastri, Russell and Leclerc. He had the tire disadvantage down the stretch, but was able to hold on for his ninth career victory and fifth of the season. Piastri has six wins in 2025, most of all drivers.

Full Race Results

The top-10 points paying positions were rounded out by Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls), Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes). Formula One will now take its annual summer break, where teams shut down work for several weeks for some much-needed time off. The racing picks back up in the Netherlands for the Dutch Grand Prix on Aug. 31.

Conclusion

The Hungarian Grand Prix was an exciting race with many twists and turns. Lando Norris’s win marked a significant milestone for McLaren, and the championship battle is heating up. With the summer break approaching, teams will have time to regroup and prepare for the rest of the season.
