Introduction to Seafood Showdown
This is “Small Bites,” a South Florida Sun Sentinel feature with tiny tidbits on the food and beverage scene — because we know that sometimes you just don’t have room for a long article. You want a little news brief instead, an amuse bouche of information, if you will. Enjoy!
Event Overview
The inaugural City of Boca Raton Seafood Festival will have nautical-themed activities, live entertainment and — as you can well imagine — lots of marine cuisine vendors.
Even though this is the event’s first-ever staging, it’s a good gourmet bet that SoFlo foodies will have their mouths watering during its Seafood Showdown, in which three Boca Raton chefs battle it out creating dishes in front of a live audience and a panel of judges.
Participating Chefs
The triumvirate of talent will include:
- Kevin Avellaneda of Penelope, the Southern-inspired seafood and cocktail bar in Mizner Park
- Yora Chan of Loch Bar, also in Mizner Park and featuring seafood with a Maryland-style influence
- Julian Bernal of Corvina Seafood Grill, with its signature sustainable ingredients in elevated coastal cuisine
Festival Activities
The Seafood Festival also will have a Crab Cake Challenge, with up to eight contestants competing to see who can scoff down the most crab cakes in the allotted time.
