Top 5 Finalists for Best Food Truck in South Florida: Time to Vote!
What’s your go-to order when you walk up to a food-truck window?
Their menus are as diverse as the communities they roll into throughout South Florida — serving up everything from hibachi dinners hot off the grill and dippable birria tacos to juicy cheeseburgers, tzatziki-drizzled gyros, jerk chicken, and creamy gelato.
And after a two-week nomination round, we’re ready to announce the five food-truck finalists in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties (in alphabetical order):
What Fans Had to Say
In nominating Cheffrey Eats, several people gave a nod to the food truck for winning the Best Burger designation in last summer’s Best of South Florida Dining series. They called the food “out of this world,” “addicting,” “creative,” and “imaginative.”
“The burgers, chicken sandwiches, and tacos are great,” wrote Delray Beach resident John Dierker, who usually orders them all from the Cheffrey Eats truck parked at Barrel of Monks Brewing in Boca Raton. “The sides are also very good … Great service, friendly, and very accommodating. Just an all-around great experience.”
For a taste of the Caribbean, Tamarac resident Kiah Wynter tracks down Dynamic Cuisines when it pops up at various locations during the week.
“I love the unique and tasty flavors the chef brings to each meal. The sweet-and-sour chicken with fried rice, fried snapper, and oxtail egg rolls are definitely a must-try!” she wrote in her nomination form. “The chicken pasta is also a hit, as it’s creamy and a little spicy. Presentation is key, and the meals are prepared and served in a five-star restaurant way.”
Malory Navarro, of Fort Lauderdale, heads over to nearby Laser Wolf ready to order from Kaminari Ramen.
“They always have a few staple ramens on the menu and continuously rotate specials, so there’s always something new to try,” she wrote. “I really love the shoyu ramen! Such a simple, clean ramen broth! I love that the chef is Japanese! There are not that many Japanese chefs down here!”
Meanwhile, Fort Lauderdale’s Amelia Walder nominated PizzElla, with a special shout-out to her favorite pie, called The Wowie.
“It comes with red sauce, cheese, pepperoni, and Larry’s homemade onion jam,” wrote Walder, who visits the food truck at Rhythm + Vine or Roxanne’s Liquor Bar & Kitchen, both in Fort Lauderdale. “I love this truck because the owner and his food are the best.”
PizzElla nominations also mentioned their mozzarella sticks, chicken wings, and chocolate chip cookies.
For fans of plant-based fare, readers pointed to Vegan Junkie, highlighting “burgers” such as the Junkie and Queen. But “all of their food is good,” according to Dania Beach resident Elizabeth Hernandez, who frequents the truck at 111 Davie Blvd.
“It’s handmade from scratch using only whole food ingredients and exotic mushrooms grown locally,” she wrote. “From the bread to the sauces, everything is superb; no flavor is lacking, and you feel good too.”
