Postal Worker Suspended Without Cause Speaks Out

A second mail carrier from the North Miami post office has come forward, claiming he was suspended without just cause. 7 Investigates spoke with Micheal Kelly, who says he was accused of bending his supervisor’s finger, an allegation he denies.

The Incident

Kelly, a three-year veteran of the postal service, was working on a Sunday shift, delivering Amazon packages. That’s when things took a turn. His supervisor, the station manager, approached him and demanded he wrap up his shift. Kelly says the conversation became hostile, with the supervisor accusing him of bending her finger and using a profanity-laced tirade.

"I’m like, ‘What did I do? What did I do?’ She’s like, ‘Oh, don’t worry about it, just hurry up and get off the clock,’" Kelly recalled.

A Pattern of Abuse

Kelly is not the only postal worker to speak out about treatment by supervisors. In April, 7 Investigates reported on another North Miami postal worker, Rose, who was taken off the clock after she fought back against a woman who was attacking her on the job.

Financial Struggle

With the support of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Kelly is fighting to get his job back and back pay. He’s been without a paycheck for a month and a half, making it difficult to pay his bills.

"It’s hard financially, mentally, like how I’m gonna pay my bills? How I’m gonna get money for this, how I’m gonna get money for that? I just try to do what I can do," Kelly said.

Union Intervention

The National Association of Letter Carriers is stepping in to support Kelly and is calling for an investigation into the North Miami post office’s management practices.

"There are some areas in the South Florida district where we’ve had concerns about the managerial approach, and North Miami is one of those areas," said a spokesperson for the union.

Conclusion

Kelly’s case highlights a pattern of abuse and mistreatment of postal workers by supervisors. As the union fights for his job back, Kelly hopes that by going public, he can bring about change and protect other workers from similar treatment.
