Southern California Weather Update
A low-pressure system moving through Southern California brought rain and cold temperatures across the region Saturday.
Rainfall and Affected Areas
Ventura and Los Angeles counties saw pop-up showers throughout the afternoon. Those showers then made their way to the Inland Empire and Orange County. Residents in the foothills could see rain in the evening as well. "It’s going to be beneficial rain, nothing that’s going to cause concern or any flooding on the roads if you live near the foothills," said NBC4 Meteorologist Shanna Mendiola.
Rainfall Amounts and Snow Expectations
Rainfall amounts in most areas are expected to be below 0.40 of an inch, according to Mendiola. Snow is expected to fall in the mountains because the system is cold. Temperatures are expected to be in the 50s for the LA Basin. Rain is expected to subside in the evening, but cloudy conditions will continue going into Sunday.
Road Closures and Mudslides
Pacific Coast Highway was closed from Carbon Beach Terrace to Coastline Drive due to mudslides, according to the LA County Sheriff’s Department.

Snow Levels and Accumulation
Snow levels will be between 4,500 and 5,500 feet on Saturday, with several inches of accumulation possible at higher elevations. "At this point, it appears that snow levels will be too high to bring any significant snow accumulations to higher portions of Interstate 5 near the Grapevine,” according to the NWS.
Temperature Expectations
High temperatures on Saturday were expected to be 10 to 20 degrees below normal in most areas, possibly 25 degrees below normal in the Antelope Valley and the mountains. The rain should persist in some areas of Los Angeles and Orange counties into Sunday morning, giving way to partly cloudy skies later Sunday. Slightly warmer weather is anticipated by early next week.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the low-pressure system brought much-needed rain to Southern California, with some areas experiencing snow in the mountains. While the rain is expected to subside, cloudy conditions will continue into Sunday, with warmer weather anticipated by early next week.
