Fire Crews in the Inland Empire Battle Two Brush Fires

The Gibbel Fire in Riverside County

Firefighters rushed to battle a brush fire that erupted in Riverside County on Thursday afternoon. The Gibbel Fire, which could be seen from AlertCalifornia’s Idyllwild camera, initially estimated at three to four acres in size was burning uphill in medium fuels at a moderate speed. However, Cal Fire officials reported that the wildfire had spread to 15 acres by 5:30 p.m.

Crews responded to the fire near State Street and Gibbel Road at around 4:40 p.m., with heavy plumes of smoke seen billowing from the hillsides near Hemet. Cal Fire crews at the scene requested additional five engines to assist in the firefight. Video posted to social media showed firefighting aircraft dropping fire retardant as the blaze climbed the hillsides.

The Reche Fire in Moreno Valley

Approximately 25 miles northwest in Moreno Valley, firefighters had stopped forward progress on the 5-acre Reche Fire, according to Watch Duty, a wildfire tracking website. The flames were burning at a moderate rate of spread in “light, flashy fuels,” prompting requests for law enforcement to shut down Reche Canyon Road at Locust Avenue.

Current Situation

So far, there are no reports of threatened structures, evacuation orders, or warnings in connection with either of the wildfires. Firefighters continued to battle the blazes, with both fires still active.

The battle against the two brush fires in the Inland Empire is ongoing, with firefighters working to contain the spread of the flames and prevent damage to nearby structures and natural habitats.
