Daily News Baseball Top 10
(Records through Monday, March 24)
1. Crespi (10-0 overall, 5-0 Mission League)
The Celts remain undefeated with a three-game series sweep of St. Francis that included two shutouts. They have two games this week against Loyola, which is tied for second in the Mission League with Harvard-Westlake at 4-1.
2. Harvard-Westlake (7-5 overall, 4-1 Mission League)
Sierra Canyon beat the Wolverines 8-7 on March 18 but they bounced back to collect back-to-back wins over the Trailblazers in the following days. Chaminade is on deck for this week.
3. Sierra Canyon (6-5 overall, 2-3 Mission League)
The Trailblazers started the week strong by beating Harvard-Westlake. Greyson Gullage was 4 for 4 with three RBIs and a stolen base. Theo Swafford hit 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI and was walked once. Dezi Delgado and Cody Gallegos were both 2 for 4 with one run.
4. Oaks Christian (5-4 overall)
The Lions start Marmonte League play this week with a three-game series against Calabasas after just one game last week — an 11-10 loss to Aquinas. Josh Brown hit 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Quentin Young was 2 for 3 with a solo home run and Luke Puls finished with two RBIs.
5. West Ranch (8-5 overall, 3-1 Foothill League)
West Ranch tacked on two more league wins last week by beating Canyon 9-6 and 17-0. There’s a three-way tie for second place in the Foothill League between the Wildcats, Castiac and Saugus, who are each 3-1 in league. West Ranch has the chance to pick up two valuable wins over Saugus this week.
6. Calabasas (8-2)
The Coyotes enter Marmonte League play on a five-game win streak and picked up wins over Taft and Saugus last week. Matthew Witkow went 3 for 4 at the plate with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Jack Quirk was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.
7. Notre Dame (5-7 overall, 3-2 Mission League)
A three-game series sweep of Chaminade moved Notre Dame into fourth place in the Mission League standings. The Knights wrapped up the series with a 2-1 win in which sophomore Beckett Berg struck out seven in six innings of work.
8. Chaminade (5-6 overall, 1-4 Mission League)
The Eagles have little time to rest as they continue Mission League play against Harvard-Westlake this week. Leadoff hitter Jackson Tyler is hitting .375 with seven RBIs and a home run in 11 games.
9. Birmingham (8-0 overall, 4-0 West Valley League)
Birmingham beat Taft 4-1 and shut out Chatsworth 4-0 before heading into the Boris Classic this week.
10. Newbury Park (5-2 overall)
Granada Hills Charter snapped the Panthers’ five-game win streak by handing them a 10-2 loss. Luke Medhurst is one of Newbury Park’s most productive hitters heading into Marmonte League play with a .400 batting average and seven RBIs while also owning a 2.62 ERA.
