After celebrating its inaugural event last year, the Baryo HiFi community festival returns to L.A.’s Historic Filipinotown on Saturday, May 3.

The free street festival — which officials say drew over 10,000 attendees last year — hones in on Filipino culture, community and creativity with a diverse, multigenerational lineup. It’s held along Beverly Boulevard in Historic Filipinotown, near downtown L.A., Echo Park and Koreatown — regarded as the birthplace of the area’s vibrant Filipino American community.

The all-ages, family-friendly event will include a diverse lineup of food and talent, with popular Filipino American businesses and restaurants such as San & Wolves bakery, Chef Tara Mansod’s Animae, Sampa, and a community marketplace among the offerings. Attendees can also shop Filipino streetwear, collectibles and goods. The neighborhood’s Unidad Park will host cultural activities, children’s programs and special guests.

There will be live performances from Pops Fernandez, VST & Co., the Bootleg Orchestra, P-Lo, Guapdad 4000, Yeek, Noodles and SOSUPERSAM.

New to the festival this year is Nike’s “Working Overtime” multidisciplinary art exhibit, curated by Kristofferson San Pablo, which explores Filipino artistry through the lens of basketball, a beloved sport in the Philippines.

Organizers said extra security will be taken into account at this weekend’s festival, especially after the tragedy at an April 26 Filipino heritage festival in Vancouver, where 11 were killed after a vehicle ramming attack.

“In light of the tragedy at the Lapu Lapu Festival, we stand with our Filipino Canadian community,” said Jennifer Taylor, co-founder of the festival. “As we prepare for Baryo HiFi, we’re taking extra steps to ensure a safe, welcoming space for all. Now more than ever, it’s a time to gather, uplift and celebrate one another.”
