Houston Police Captain Relieved of Duty After Child Pornography and Sexual Assault Charges

A 59-year-old Houston Police Department captain was relieved of duty after his arrest on sexual assault and child pornography charges this week, officials said.

59-year-old Daryn Edwards was arrested by League City police officers Wednesday on a possession of child pornography charge.

League City Police Department detectives Thursday evening requested additional felony charges of aggravated sexual assault and sexual performance of a child.

His bond for the child pornography possession charge was set at $250,000. No bonds were set for the other charges, according to the League City Police Department.

Background on Daryn Edwards

Edwards most recently led the auto theft division at the Houston Police Department, charged with investigating thefts of vehicles and burglaries of vehicles. The division is also responsible for regulating automotive related businesses.

In an interview with the Brays Oaks Management District last year, Edwards said he first worked as an officer in the department and was promoted to sergeant in 1998, when he oversaw the Southeast Division. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2005, and assistant chief in 2020.
