Expansion of a Houston Favorite

A staple Houston taqueria, Tacos A Go Go, is set to open two new locations before the end of the year. This expansion includes moving its current Heights location and adding a new outpost in the Briargrove/Memorial area.

New Locations and Features

The restaurant has taken over the former spaces of Lola Neighborhood Diner and Killen’s STQ, which are significantly larger than its current locations. This increase in space allows for larger kitchens where staff can prepare family packs from their sister concept, Fajitas A Go Go, and make fresh corn and flour tortillas throughout the day. Both new locations will offer bar seating, a first for Tacos A Go Go, enabling the restaurant to serve cocktails.

Cocktail Menu Development

To develop a unique cocktail menu, founder Sharon Haynes collaborated with Anvil owner Bobby Heugel, a longtime fan of Tacos A Go Go. Heugel, known for his expertise in creating innovative bar programs, will design a menu inspired by Mexican cocktails and ingredients. The menu will feature tequilas and mezcals from family-owned distilleries, aiming to complement the restaurant’s traditional and elevated Mexican dishes.

Inspiration Behind the Collaboration

Haynes expressed her excitement about finally having a full bar in Tacos A Go Go, something she had always wanted. The collaboration with Heugel was seen as the perfect opportunity to bring this vision to life. Heugel shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating his goal is to create a bar program that matches the creativity and care Tacos A Go Go puts into its food, ensuring a fun and delicious experience for guests.

Menu Offerings

Both new locations will serve Tacos A Go Go’s familiar and beloved menu, led by chef and co-owner Maribel Gomez. The menu includes a variety of street-style tacos, breakfast tacos available all day, and more elevated options such as grilled shrimp and smoked brisket. Non-taco options like burritos, quesadillas, and salads will also be available, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences.

A Dream Realized

Gomez reflected on her journey, from immigrating to the United States in 1991 with a dream of cooking the food she grew up with, to now sharing those recipes with her community. She expressed her pride in doing what she loves and her gratitude for the opportunity to bring people together with food that reminds her of home.

Conclusion

Tacos A Go Go’s expansion is not just about growing a business; it’s about sharing a piece of culture and community with more people. With its new locations and enhanced offerings, including a bar program designed by a respected figure in the mixology world, Tacos A Go Go is poised to continue its legacy as a staple in Houston’s dining scene. The restaurant will announce grand opening plans for both locations in the coming weeks, giving fans and newcomers alike something to look forward to.
