La Calle Tacos Expands to East River
Introduction to La Calle Tacos
A growing Houston taqueria chain, La Calle Tacos, is set to open its third location in the massive mixed-use development of East River, situated in the Fifth Ward. This new location promises to bring the vibrant flavors and authentic Mexican dining experience that La Calle Tacos is known for.
The New Location
The East River location of La Calle Tacos will be the largest yet, spanning almost 4,000 square feet and seating approximately 240 people. Similar to its original downtown location, it will feature a restaurant area and a separate cantina. What sets this location apart is its expansive patio, offering breathtaking views of the bayou, a unique feature among La Calle Tacos’ venues.
Menu and Inspiration
La Calle Tacos draws its inspiration from the owner, Ramon Soriano’s, experiences growing up in Mexico City. The menu reflects this heritage, offering breakfast tacos in the morning and a variety of dishes for lunch and dinner, including tortas, tacos, cevichito, and more. Notably, the restaurant prides itself on serving scratch-made dishes without the use of microwaves or freezers. The street taco fillings come in 10 varieties, ranging from carnitas, pastor, chicken, and carne asada to a vegetarian option featuring guacamole.
Previous Location Closure
It’s worth noting that La Calle Tacos had initially planned for a third location in Garden Oaks. Unfortunately, that location suffered damage from a fire in August 2024 and has since been closed. After careful consideration, the decision was made not to reopen the Garden Oaks location. Instead, the focus has shifted to the new East River location, bringing La Calle Tacos’ unique dining experience to a new community.
Owner’s Statement
Ramon Soriano expressed his regret over not being able to reopen the Garden Oaks location but is enthusiastic about the opportunity to introduce La Calle Tacos to the East River community. He looks forward to celebrating the brand new space with customers over tacos and margaritas.
About the Owner and Other Ventures
Ramon Soriano is also the owner of La Diabla Retro Bar in downtown Houston. Opened in December 2022, La Diabla Retro Bar is a tribute to the pop culture icons of Mexico City from the ’80s and ’90s, offering a unique blend of art, music, food, and drinks that pay homage to that era.
East River Development
The East River development, where La Calle Tacos will be located, is a 150-acre mixed-use project in the Fifth Ward. The first phase of the development, completed last year, includes a variety of eateries such as Kyuramen, Lick Honest Ice Creams, and City Cellars HTX, a wine bar and restaurant. Additionally, it features a 360-unit apartment building and East River 9, a nine-hole, par-three golf course, making it a vibrant and diverse community hub.
Conclusion
The expansion of La Calle Tacos to East River marks an exciting milestone for the taqueria chain, offering its authentic Mexican cuisine to a new and vibrant community. With its commitment to scratch-made dishes and its unique dining experience, La Calle Tacos is set to become a favorite among residents and visitors to the East River development. As the Houston dining scene continues to evolve, La Calle Tacos’ newest location is sure to be a welcomed addition, bringing the flavors and spirit of Mexico City to the heart of Houston.
