Marko Cinan was arrested Wednesday night, according to Harris County court records, which show that his bond amount was set Thursday by a magistrate judge. If he posts bail and is released from jail, Cinan must wear a GPS monitoring device, remain under house arrest, stay at least 200 feet away from the popular shopping mall and avoid contact with family members of the victim, 30-year-old Anthony Sanders.
Sanders was unarmed and accompanied by another person when he was shot multiple times in a Galleria parking garage on the afternoon of June 3, according to court documents and the Houston Police Department. Police said after the shooting that Sanders was taken to Ben Taub Hospital and pronounced dead at about 11 p.m. that night.
Harris County prosecutors wrote in court documents that Cinan is “believed to have fired 10 rounds” in the mall parking garage.
The court-appointed defense attorney for Cinan could not be reached for comment Friday.
In the aftermath of the shooting, a spokesperson for The Galleria called it a “senseless tragedy that has no place in our society.” The spokesperson also defended the security measures at the mall, where there have been other recent shooting incidents.
