The sun melts away snow at Baldwin Park in Houston on January 22, 2025, the day after several inches of snow fell across the region.

Sunshine will slowly warm up the Houston area after a winter storm brought frigid temperatures and historic snowfall.

Winter Storm Update: Temperatures to Rise

Tuesday’s snow largely melted Wednesday as temperatures climbed from the teens into the 40s. Highs in the 50s are forecasted for Thursday and Friday, with temperatures reaching the 60s this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

"For those of us really not liking this cold, it looks like a pretty decent weekend might be in store," Tim Cady, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Galveston/Houston office, said Wednesday afternoon.

Return to Freezing Temperatures Expected

Temperatures are expected to return to freezing Wednesday and Thursday night, but just barely, as Houston’s forecasted lows are 30 and 31, according to Cady. But sunshine is in the forecast through Friday, when the low temperature is expected to be 37.

Weekend Forecast: Sunshine and Showers

Temperatures should approach 60 degrees on Saturday, Cady said, with a projected high of 64 on Sunday. The weekend also could bring precipitation, with a 50 percent chance of showers Saturday night and an 80 percent chance Sunday.

"That’ll all be liquid," Cady said.

Monday’s Forecast: Rain Chances

There is a smaller chance for rain Monday, when the forecasted high is 61 and the projected low is 50.
