Closure of a Posh Restaurant

PostScript, a luxurious pink restaurant located in Upper Kirby, has closed its doors. Despite still being listed as open on online platforms such as Yelp and Google, and accepting reservations on OpenTable, the restaurant has canceled Mother’s Day reservations and emptied its dining room of furniture.

Background and Concept

PostScript opened in February 2024 with a lot of excitement and fanfare. The restaurant was owned by Veeral Rathod and Obi Ibeto, who brought their experience from the Dallas-based GAP Hospitality to the project. The concept was largely inspired by XOXO Dining Room, one of their other establishments, and featured a predominantly pink theme, complete with pink walls, a pink quartz bar, and a pink grand piano. The menu was created by renowned chef Bryan Caswell, who is known for his work at Reef, a pioneering Gulf Coast seafood restaurant that closed in 2019.

Menu and Features

The menu at PostScript included a range of dishes, such as fried chicken with hummus, oysters prepared in three different ways, a sushi roll, and a double-smoked pork chop. One of the unique features of the restaurant was a "Push for Champagne" button, which added to the lively atmosphere. A doughnut topped with caviar was also a customer favorite. However, chef Caswell’s involvement with the project was short-lived, as he left a couple of months after opening to focus on his new restaurant, Latuli, which is expected to open soon.

Closure and Statement

After reports of the closure began circulating on social media, PostScript’s management released a statement confirming the news. The statement expressed sadness at the closure and thanked patrons for their loyalty and support. The management also praised the people and culture of Houston, wishing them all the best and hoping that their paths would cross again in the future.

Impact and Context

The closure of PostScript follows that of Cru, which ended its 13-year run in December 2024. However, other restaurants in the same development, such as Kira and Pondicheri, are thriving. Kira, a sushi hand roll concept, has even earned a spot on Texas Monthly’s list of the state’s best new restaurants. The development is also home to a range of other establishments, including Eddie V’s steakhouse and the popular shopping destination Tootsie’s.

Conclusion

The closure of PostScript is a significant loss for the Upper Kirby dining scene, but it also highlights the dynamic nature of the restaurant industry. As some establishments close, others open, offering new and exciting experiences for foodies and customers alike. Despite its short run, PostScript will be remembered for its unique concept and luxurious atmosphere, and its owners and staff will undoubtedly go on to create new and exciting projects in the future.
