Thursday, May 8

On Thursday, the Asia Society Texas presents Runway to Asia, a new initiative that honors Asian and Asian American innovators on the global fashion scene. The event will feature international designer Zang Toi and Houston’s own Danny Nguyen, with a lunch and fashion experience blending cutting-edge designs with a celebration of artistry and passion.

Also on Thursday, the Nancy Owens Breast Cancer Foundation will present a night of fashion, philanthropy, and fun at the 5th Annual Fashion for the Cure. Visitors can enjoy a runway-inspired trunk show, live DJ music, signature cocktails, and light bites, with one hundred percent of ticket and raffle sales being donated to cancer research.

The Houston Grand Opera will present Wagner’s Tannhäuser, receiving a new staging from director Francesca Zambello. The story follows the title character’s battle between lust and love, as he seeks redemption and a union with his spiritual love Elisabeth.

Friday, May 9

On Friday, Sugar Land will host its Jazz Fest, featuring artists, food, and a weekend filled with music, culture, and fun. Day one will feature performances from Brian Culbertson, Sheila E. & E Train, and Adam Hawley.

Alton Brown will bring his Last Bite tour to Sugar Land, reflecting on his decades in food media, presenting culinary mega-hacks, and singing funny food songs as part of the culinary variety show.

The Houston Symphony will present "Trumpet Brilliance & Boléro", featuring Venezuelan trumpet virtuoso Pacho Flores playing two crowd-pleasing concertos. The orchestra will also perform an array of music inspired by Spain, ending with Ravel’s sultry and hypnotic Boléro.

DACAMERA will present Lizz Wright, a vocalist and songwriter known for her smooth, dark alto voice. Wright’s singing is a reflection of the cultural fabric of America, transcending social divides with her offer of love and a deep sense of humanity.

On Saturday, the Bach Society Houston will present “Solo Cantatas: Renée Rybolt & Drew Santini”, a rare opportunity to hear J.S. Bach’s sacred music in a soaring acoustic space. Houston-based soprano Renée Rybolt and internationally acclaimed baritone Drew Santini will perform three of Bach’s most beloved vocal works.

The Spot EaDo will present Paid in Full – The Taurus & Gemini Jam, a community of underground hip hop lovers celebrating the five elements of hip hop. The event will feature DJ NIMBUS, DJ Burb, and Mista GoodBar, with a day party that will also serve as a birthday soiree.

Craft Pita will team up with Midtown bar Winnie’s for its second annual celebration of Lebanese culture, featuring pomegranate molasses barbecue wings, Lebanese take on Winnie’s sandwiches, and Arak cocktails.

The Nigerian-American Multicultural Council will present their 11th Annual Fundraising Gala and Awards, celebrating the achievements of individuals who have made significant contributions to society while fostering multicultural collaboration.

Sunday, May 11

On Sunday, Stages will present Das Barbecü, a foot-stompin’, knee-slappin’ musical comedy that reimagines Wagner’s epic Ring cycle as a hilarious Texas hootenanny. The River Oaks Theatre will present Cinemaniacs: Mommie Dearest, a 1981 biopic following legendary movie star Joan Crawford as she struggles for her career and battles the inner demons of her private life.

The War and Treaty, a husband and wife duo, will perform in concert, sharing their incredibly inspiring story of healing and music. They’re currently on a 30-plus city headline tour in support of their new album Plus One.
