Empowering Women, Enriching Lives

Nearly 350 attendees gathered at the 11th annual Women Empowering Women event, raising close to $185,000 for Interfaith Community Clinic. The event, held at The Peach Orchard, featured a lively afternoon of connection, shopping, and philanthropy, with lunch from Amerigo’s Grille and a Philanthropy Shopping Market showcasing almost 30 vendors from across Texas.

A Call to Community

Interfaith’s president and CEO, Missy Herndon, welcomed the crowd and emphasized the overwhelming need for local services. "We believe every neighbor should have access to medical, dental, and behavioral services, regardless of their ability to pay," she said. Herndon noted that 77 percent of the clinic’s patients are women, highlighting the importance of the clinic’s work in supporting and empowering women in the community.

Honoring Dedicated Individuals

The event recognized two women who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to Interfaith’s Community Clinic. Belinda "Bea" Lewis received the Volunteer Who Cares award for her compassion and longtime commitment as a volunteer receptionist. Dr. Kerrie Guerrero, chief nursing officer at Houston Methodist The Woodlands, received the Woman Who Cares award for her instrumental role in the clinic’s success, including serving as the clinic board chair for the past two years.

Meeting a Growing Need

Interfaith Community Clinic provides essential dental, medical, and behavioral health services for Montgomery County’s uninsured residents. The clinic has expanded its services to meet the growing needs of the community, delivering quality basic medical and dental care, counseling, and support programs at no cost to patients. A volunteer team of licensed physicians, nurses, medical providers, dentists, hygienists, translators, and support staff work together to ensure every patient receives care with dignity.

Making a Difference

The clinic’s programs are funded entirely through grants, faith-based organizations, civic groups, businesses, and generous individuals. In 2024, the clinic recorded 6,885 patient visits, with visits already up nearly 40 percent for behavioral health and 20 percent for medical care this year. The Women Empowering Women event plays a vital role in supporting the clinic’s mission to provide quality healthcare services to those in need.

Conclusion

The Women Empowering Women event is a testament to the power of community and philanthropy. By coming together to support Interfaith Community Clinic, attendees are helping to enrich the lives of women and families in Montgomery County. The event’s success is a reminder that every individual can make a difference in their community, and that together, we can create a brighter, healthier future for all.
