The Arrest

According to court records, Sugar Land Police Department officers responded to a welfare concern at a gas station in the 8200 block of Highway 90. The call was regarding a black Mercedes-Benz SUV stopped near the gas pumps. Officers discovered that the driver of the vehicle was asleep behind the wheel with the engine running and lights on.

Evidence of Intoxication

The officers woke Peterson up, and when he exited the vehicle, they reportedly smelled alcohol. Peterson also allegedly had glossy eyes and slurred speech. Peterson said he was driving home after attending a poker game in Houston. He said he had consumed “two or three shots of a vodka mix,” and hadn’t drunk alcohol in the last two or three hours.

Field Sobriety Tests and Arrest

Peterson was given two different field sobriety tests, after which officers determined he was impaired and placed him under arrest. During the search of his vehicle, a Glock 41 pistol was located in the glove box. While in the SLPD Jail, Peterson refused to provide a breath or blood sample to authorities. A blood warrant was obtained, and his blood was collected, but the results of those tests have not been confirmed.

Charges and Bond

On Monday, Peterson was given a $2,000 bond for the DWI and a $1,000 bond for the unlawful carrying of a weapon charge, for a total of $3,000.
