Introduction to The Tailgate

CultureMap is gearing up for The Tailgate, the can’t-miss game day bash of the season, landing Thursday, September 11, at 8th Wonder in EaDo. This event promises to be an exciting experience, especially for sports fans, with a range of activities and appearances by local sports teams.

Meet the Legends

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet two legendary Texas athletes: former Houston Texans tight end Owen Daniels and two-time All-Star Houston Astros pitcher Ryan Pressly. Daniels, drafted by the Texans in 2006, played for the team through 2013 before moving to the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos. Notably, he helped the Broncos win Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers. Interestingly, Daniels earned the nickname "The Weatherman" in college, where he majored in meteorology and even appeared on local news delivering the forecast.

Ryan Pressly, a Dallas native, made his Major League Baseball debut in 2013 with the Minnesota Twins. After being traded to the Houston Astros in 2018, he contributed significantly to the team’s postseason appearances, including six consecutive American League Championship Series and three World Series. Pressly achieved a remarkable feat in Game 4 of the 2022 World Series, becoming the first MLB relief pitcher to contribute to two combined no-hitters.

Experiences and Food

The Tailgate will offer a variety of experiences showcasing local sports and food. Nearly two dozen restaurants will serve game day-inspired bites, including BB’s Tex-Orleans, The Waffle Bus, Loro, Pizaro’s Pizza, Crawfish Cafe, and La Calle Tacos. It’s also the perfect time to vote in the Top Taco Tournament, with the winner being announced at the event. Expect activations and appearances from favorite Houston teams, including the Texans, Astros, and Dynamo and Dash football clubs.

Tickets and Sponsorship

For an all-access experience, including an exclusive meet-and-greet with Owen Daniels and Ryan Pressly, VIP tickets are available for $60. General Admission tickets start at $35. The Tailgate is sponsored by notable brands such as FLIGHT by Yuengling, Puttshack, Mizzen+Main, Sysco To Go, Antone’s Famous Po’ Boys, and NXT LVL Events, among others.

Conclusion

The Tailgate promises to be an unforgettable game day bash, offering something for everyone. With its unique blend of sports, food, and entertainment, it’s an event not to be missed. Secure your tickets now to ensure you’re part of this exciting experience on September 11.
