Introduction to the Pepsi National Battle of the Bands
Houston is once again the proud host of the Pepsi National Battle of the Bands, a premier celebration of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Now in its 11th year in Houston, the event has grown into the largest showcase of its kind, bringing together thousands of fans and eight powerhouse marching bands.
Participating Marching Bands
The eight participating marching bands include:
- Alabama A&M University – Marching Maroon & White
- Albany State University – Marching Rams Show Band
- Florida A&M University – Marching “100”
- Jackson State University – Sonic Boom of the South
- Langston University – Marching Pride Band
- North Carolina A&T State University – Blue & Gold Marching Machine
- Prairie View A&M University – Marching Storm
- Texas Southern University – Ocean of Soul
More Than Just a Performance
The event is about more than just electrifying halftime-style performances. Under the leadership of Executive Director Derek Webber, the NBOTB has become a cultural movement awarding nearly $2 million in scholarships, hosting college and career fairs with on-site admissions, and building pathways for young people to dream big beyond the music field.

The weekend experience also features the Emerging Experience Entrepreneur Conference, powered by JPMorgan Chase, and the fan-favorite Greek-life Stroll Off, making it a full community celebration of culture, education, and empowerment.
