Introduction to a Great Cause
As summer comes to an end, many families are preparing for the back-to-school rush. This time of year can be stressful, especially when it comes to buying school supplies. However, thanks to a local effort in the Houston area, over 1,100 elementary students will be heading into the new school year with one less thing to worry about.
The "We’re ‘Hear’ for You" Program
Employees from eight Big Star and Texan dealerships, part of the Ken Garff Automotive Group, are giving away free school supplies as part of the company’s "We’re ‘Hear’ for You" program. This employee-led initiative is focused on community outreach and hands-on service. The program aims to help families in need by providing essential school supplies, which can be a significant financial burden.
The Cost of School Supplies
The cost of school supplies continues to climb, with the average cost per student being around $570, according to a back-to-school retail survey by Deloitte. This can be a significant expense for many families, especially those with multiple children. The Ken Garff Automotive Group recognizes the added financial stress of purchasing school supplies and wants to help lighten the load.
What’s in the Backpacks
Each donated backpack will be fully packed with classroom essentials, including #2 pencils, notebooks, and glue sticks. The backpacks will be hand-assembled by dealership employees, ensuring that each student receives everything they need to succeed in the upcoming school year. The goal of the program is to allow students to focus on learning and help parents breathe a little easier.
Distribution of School Supplies
The school supplies will be distributed at three community events this summer:
- Friday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at YES Prep, where 500 students will receive supplies.
- Friday, August 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ignite Community School, where 250 students will receive supplies.
- Saturday, August 9, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Baytown Community Center, where 400 students will receive supplies.
Conclusion
The "We’re ‘Hear’ for You" program is a great example of a company giving back to the community. By providing free school supplies to over 1,100 elementary students, the Ken Garff Automotive Group is helping to make a positive impact on the lives of many families in the Houston area. This initiative is a reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of others. As the new school year approaches, it’s heartwarming to see companies like the Ken Garff Automotive Group stepping up to help those in need.
